October is Hunger Awareness Month

October is Hunger Awareness Month

During the month of October, hunger awareness is the focus of several nonprofit organizations dedicated to raising awareness of food issues.  World Hunger Action Month, Food Day and American Culinary Federation’s Chef and Child Foundation are hosting events to raise awareness of the problems causing hunger and the solutions.

According to the World Hunger Action Month, a global nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness of hunger, over 842 million people around the world do not have enough food and more than 25,000 people die each day from hunger-related illnesses. In addition, 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. do not get the food they need according to Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit dedicated to the mission of No Kid Hungry.

Consider signing up to host a Chef and Child Foundation event in your community on or around Oct. 16 and join forces with nonprofits helping end hunger by educating families on proper nutrition and health. Chef and Child Day is Oct. 16, but events held during the month of October are encouraged. Register your event and download educational tools and a promotional toolkit at www.acfchefs.org/CCF.

Joining in the fight against childhood hunger in October is Worldchefs and Nestle Professional:
Join over 10 million chefs engaging in charitable activities in their communities. This year’s theme, “Healthy Kids – Healthy Future,” in support of the Nestle Professional Healthy Future partnership, features 30 recipes developed by the Worldchefs Without Borders Committee and Nestle Professional that are healthy and easy for children to prepare with some supervision.
